Dean Castle Country Park - Kilmarnock
State of the art lighting installations with specially commissioned visual and music effects will show Dean Castle Country Park in a whole new light. Illuminight’s 1.5km trail will take visitors through the historic woodland, alongside the Kilmarnock Water and through the fantastic new wetland areas highlighting the rivers, ponds and trees of the Country Park and, of course, Dean Castle itself. Visitors will also be able enjoy quality local food and drink at the event to keep hands and tummies warm on the journey through the park, with the option to toast marshmallows among other seasonal offerings, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Illuminight is an unaccompanied tour of the grounds following a designated route with installations, illuminations and lighting of the plants, paths and selected buildings.
The outdoor event trail starts at the main entrance off Dean Road by the new visitor centre then loops around the newly renovated Rural Life area through the deer park and past the Old Quarry Pond before concluding at Dean Castle. The route is approximately 1.5 kilometres and involves being outdoors for approximately one and a half hours.
Visitors should begin the trail at the start time stated on their ticket. Latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable time slot can be found in another session.
Illuminight is an all outdoor, evening event in Scotland. Think practical and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for a Scottish winter! Fingers crossed for good weather but as we know, Scottish weather can change hourly with a mix of crisp winter nights or showers. Layering is best and something waterproof is advisable, as is sturdy footwear. We recommend either wellies or walking boots.
Dean Castle Country Park is accessible to those with reduced mobility and specific needs. Please note, whilst the event and route through the grounds is fully accessible, certain areas are sloped and uneven which may require assistance for wheelchair users or those with infants in pushchairs.
There will be no strobe effects during the event. However, those with a light sensitivity should be aware that there may be areas where there will be flickering or fast paced flashing lights at low intensity.
Please note that whilst Dean Castle will be illuminated as part of the event, the buildings will only be viewed externally and will remain closed throughout the show and are not accessible as part of the Illuminight event.
Illuminight is presented by East Ayrshire Leisure in association with Scotland's leading independent event producers Unique Events, working with lighting, AV and sound specialists Black Light.
